Mercer Baseball won the Region 19 Championship with three wins to capture the title on May 8th. MCCC opened the tournament with a 12-4 win over Raritan Valley. The Mustangs then beat Sussex 14-4 to advance to the Championship game in the double elimination tournament.
In the championship game Mercer beat Lackawanna 19-11. MCCC trailed 6-0 in the top of the second inning but battled back to tie the game after three innings. The game remained close until the bottom of the eighth inning when the Mustangs scored six runs to put the score at 19-11. Sophomore Kevin Stewart (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township) hit a grand slam in the eighth which sealed the win for the Mustangs. Jordan Raba (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) was named the Region Tournament MVP and went 5 for 6 with 5 RBIs in the title game.
With the win Mercer heads to the East District Championship with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division II World Series.
