4/2/26
MCCC Baseball earned its first ranking of the 2026 season in the NJCAA National Poll, breaking into the top 20 in the week 4 poll. The Mustangs were 17-6 with a 5-1 record in Region play.
Mercer is led by experienced veterans which paired with incoming young players has proved to give the Mustangs a deep team at every position. Offensively, Mercer has a team batting average of .333 and is led by sophomore Jordan Raba (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) who is batting .481 on the season. Sophomore Shaniel Maldonado (Trenton, NJ/St. Benedict’s) is almost batting .400 with a .391 average and sophomore Slade Harrill is not far behind with a .382 average. Two more MCCC players are batting around .350 with sophomore Mike Amrhein (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) hitting .352 and sophomore Geno Bianco (North Wales, PA/Lansdale Catholic) hitting .346.
The offense isn’t the only reason for Mercer’s success this season but their strong pitching rotation. Harrill is 3-0 with 27 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched and freshman John Koch (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) also has 27 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched and is 2-1 on the season.
Mercer’s relief pitchers have also been very strong this season. Freshman Dominick Terranova (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA. Freshman reliever Jimmy Musser (Chesterfield, NJ/Northern Burlington) has a 1.17 ERA and freshman Chad Brewer (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township) has a 2.0 ERA.
The season is far from over especially with a busy April featuring 20 games ahead, but the Mustangs are off to a great start and will rely on its veteran players to continue to lead the way with the help of some talented freshmen.
